Ugggggggh. Ladies. Gentlemen too. In the last week I have had the worst break out of acne that I’ve ever had in the last 6 months. Yea, it’s stress related, welcome Christmas in retail. Side note, I love Christmas.
Anyway. This product here, is something I had only been using in the summer when my skin was an oil slick. Mainly because it did a great job of mattifying my skin. So keep that in mind for the summer, folks. With my recent face apocalypse I busted this out last night to try and soothe my skin. I wouldn’t recommend using this regularly in the colder seasons if you have drier skin. Again, it’s geared to mattify. Anyway, soothe it did. The main ingredient in here is clay and that clay will soothe, soothe, soothe until you are all soothed out. My acne related redness went down noticeably. It is hypoallergenic, paraben free, soap free, alcohol free. It smells wonderfully fresh as you put it on and it does tighten up quite quickly. In the summer I would leave it on for 10 minutes but I only left it on for 5 minutes last night. My skin did feel slightly tight afterwords but the pay off was worth it. My acne hasn’t disappeared but it’s definitely better. If you suffer from acne or have seasonally oily skin, you might want to try this product out! This will be a repurchase for me.
I’m in a bad mood and ready to write about something I dislike – HA! I didn’t actually purchase this product but my best friend gave it to me because she hated it. Here I was thinking again that she must be crazy. It’s Urban Decay! It’s blush! It’s a DISASTER! This colour is terrible. I mean it’s pretty….you could pull it off as a shadow….maybe….or probably not. The texture is just….bad. It is not smooth, silky, soft or anything pleasant. It doesn’t blend easily and I can’t see how that would change even if you tried to use it as a shadow. I don’t know if all the Afterglow products are like this and I don’t know if maybe my bestie just had it for way too long and it’s lost it’s goods, but I used it 3 times hoping that it was just me and all 3 times I hated it. I’m glad I didn’t buy this. I wouldn’t buy this product and this hasn’t stopped me from loving their eye shadows but it’s made me nervous to try any other Afterglow products.
I’m being kind of rude by telling you about this polish because I bought it last year and it was part of Revlon’s Christmas Collection. I haven’t seen it re-release this year (yet?). Let me tell you, when I bought this and put it on for the first time I LOVED it. I was so disappointed that everyone who commented on it wasn’t a fan. I wasn’t offended, trust me, I love me some cosmetic criticism, but I WAS shocked. I don’t know why, but I fell in love with it and I think i’m the only one that did! Anyway….I’m still getting over it, HA!
I decided to bring this baby back and put it on last night. I still love it. Very metallic, deep, dark silver/grey. Lasts well, doesn’t chip (at least not instantly) and it goes on very, very smoothly. I think this colour is so wonderful for the holidays. The one thing I do hate, and it has nothing to do specifically with this colour – the packaging. Oh my GOD! Revlon, come on! I hate, hate, hate the bottles. They are starting to come out with better packaging for nail colour but look at this bottle. It’s seriously ugly. Anyway, I’m still getting over that as well it would seem. I love this colour, maybe you could humour me and pretend to love it too.
OCC have around 41 different colours of Lip Tar. What is Lip Tar? It’s a 100% Vegan and Cruelty Free Lipstick with the application of a gloss. This is the colour I picked up for myself from Sephora and it’s called Hush. All the colours they offer are quite beautiful, I must say. I do find if you put on a smidge too much it can in fact get cakey. I might be the only one with this issue but regardless, it was an issue. It also claims to have longevity though I found it lasted an average amount of time. In my opinion, the Maybelline 14hr lipsticks last a lot longer. In saying all this, I still think this product is great. It does have a scent to it, which is peppermint and though it’s strong at first it is gone in minutes. It does wear beautifully on the lips and I would love to own every colour! It comes in at $19 and you can get Sleek ones for cheaper with the same quality. In saying that, Sleek isn’t readily available for you. I enjoyed it and if I saw a shade I just couldn’t get over, i’d snatch it right up.
Somehow this is only the 2nd BB cream I’ve ever tried. The first one being the Marcelle one.
I have to say that this Beauty Balm is fantastic for the type of weather we’re in/going into. For my skin it offers a lot of hydration. It blends into my skin leaving behind a dewy look, which I love in the colder months because it’s when my skin starts looking dull and dead. It comes in Light to Medium, Medium to Dark. I of course, am Light to Medium. It tints to my skin perfectly and it’s sheer enough that if you want to wear it alone just for a dewy natural look it works, but if you want to wear it under your foundation, it brightens up whatever your foundation might be. In saying that, if you have a foundation that is already brightening/glowing up your skin, you might want to pass on mixing the two. You could literally start to glow 🙂 I don’t think my skin could handle this product in the summer as I tend to get oilier. Self explanatory really, highlighting base and oil? Disaster. For dryer, duller skin, I would give this a try. Oilier? I would pass. Also, if you’re expecting miracles or radical changes to your skin with this cream, you won’t get it. It’s basically a tinted moisturizer, not a miracle balm. I would buy it again.
It’s that time of year again where your skin (if it’s like mine) starts to get irritatedly dry. I recently got to try the Vichy Aqualia Thermal in Rich. There are two other versions of this product, light and aqua gel. Since my skin has been drier then normal I thought I would test out the rich one. I’m not a huge fan of thick face creams for your face. I have to say though, I enjoyed this one. It IS thick but it still somehow doesn’t feel heavy on your face. I would love to know how the light or aqua gel would feel. Putting this on felt luxurious. It absorbs fairly quick and doesn’t leave a residue or any greasy feel afterwords. It says for best results to use 2 weeks continuously but I only got to use it for 1. I noticed a difference though only after 1 week. I did feel like my skin was a lot more hydrated and comfortable. My only con with this product is that it does have a strong perfume smell to it. I’ve said it before, I’m not apposed to fragrance but I found this one particularly strong. I would buy this product strictly for winter. I don’t think I could handle the thick texture any other way. If you love thick moisturizers and you are in need of some hydration, try this now! It’s beautiful.
So I was pretty freaking excited to see my Topbox in the mail and equally as excited to not dislike it! So here we go. I’ve had a chance to try 3 out of 4 of the products.
Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara! I got a 3.0g sized bottle, a full sized bottle is 8.5g and $29.
I was really excited to see this as I’ve heard such wonderful things but just haven’t gotten around to trying it. Upon trying this product I was a bit upset with only one aspect of it. Which might turn out to be a deal breaker for me. In a post a bit back I had brought up the fact that I hadn’t liked rubber bristled mascaras but that I was getting back into them. I have to say, this brush is rubber bristled and I hate it. It’s a bit too much for me. I don’t find it a fun experience when I am applying. Just a personal preference. The effect of the actual product is nice. You really get a fuller look to your lashes yet still manage to look realistic. No clumping but a smooth application. My only complaint – the brush.
China Glaze On the Safari Collection in Jungle Queen. I got the full size of this item and it retails for $12.
This would be the one product I haven’t tried yet. Mostly because I really wanted to try out the deep purple (Trina) by Julep. I love it btw.
So, I’ll give an update on this once I do get to try it.
Cuccio Naturale Butter Blend in Pomegranate & Fig. I received 9.24g and a full size is 240g for $18.95.
I have to say that I LOVE this product. It smells AMAZING – though I don’t think it smells anything like pom or figs! It is the least greasy/slick lotion I have ever used. It absorbs in no time with no residue or any type of feeling that you had just put on a lotion. It’s hydrating and very light weight. Out of my entire Topbox this was my favorite. I will definitely have my eye out for any of these products.
Roberto Cavalli eau de parfum. I got 5ml and 50 ml is $80, 75ml $105.
I actually really like this perfume even though it’s been out for a while and it’s a really summery scent, it’s nice to have. Look at that bottle too, SO cute. I’m glad it wasn’t in those thin pinky-sized spray tubes. I know perfume is a very personal thing to receive and maybe if I ever get a fragrance I absolutely hate, I’ll be bitter. I wasn’t bitter though, i thought this was adorable.
SO! Overall I really liked everything I got. The hand cream was my favorite and I also got to try a mascara for super cheap without dropping $30 on it and disliking it. I’m satisfied with this November box and look forward to receiving the December box.
I’m in a particularly good mood today and I thought, why not share a wonderfully positive review?! Kat Von D’s tattoo concealer should be your new best friend. This is my ultimate go to concealer (I still rely on Erase Paste by Benefit for under my eyes). This tube of liquid magic will last you at least a year. No joke. You only need a tiny amount and it goes a long way. I get those gross blemishes that are under your skin and all you see is that pulsing red volcano…..this hides it. My cheeks get a bit redder here and there, this gives it that extra bit of coverage. It is a fluid but it’s almost a cream, thick in texture but not cakey. It also claims to be water resistant but that I have yet to try out. It’s oil free and paraben free and it really does last all day. I keep throwing it in my purse make up bag but never actually using it for touch ups. I just don’t need it. It also comes in 8 shades, mine happens to be the lightest. I feel if you have porcelain/very fair skin, you might have a problem finding a good match, but check it out. If you are in the market for a fantastic concealer, this is seriously worth a try. It is $30 but again, it will last at least a year. A wonderful investment.
This is probably my most fave item I have bought in the last few months. It’s really all a girl could want and need for day to day make up life. Wonderful eye shadows, blushes, highlights, eyeliners and glosses. How can you go wrong? You can’t. For roughly $70 this palette is a steal. The quality is fantastic. I even used two colours for zombie make up. This is a classy move from Smashbox and I really recommend you go out and add this to your collection. I don’t even have anything negative to say about this. I do have to say though, a cute bonus is that they give you front and back cue-cards for different eye shadow styles. It’s great for when you just don’t know what kind of style you’re in the mood for. Go.get.this.now.
In other news, I did get my Top Box and I am pleased. Reviews will come as I use the products but I paid $11 CND and I figure I got about $37 worth of product. I think I’ll be trying this again for 1 more month.
So this month Julep was trying out some polishes that left your nails looking suede. I thought that was pretty cool but was still unsure. I’m still on the fence and I’ve gotten my November box, ha! My “style” is Boho Glam and this month was going to be the suede’s…. until I decided I was unsure about the suede effect and I wasn’t a fan of my styles colours. I switched over to Bombshell this round. I’m not sad that I did! Two beautiful colours with the same quality as past, Donna, smokey peacock blue creme and Trina, deep purple shimmer. I’m wearing Donna right now and can’t stop loving it. You also get this pink body frosting which is Pink Grapefruit scented. Oh.my.GOD. It smells like candied grapefruit and the texture is like whipped butter. It’s not greasy but it is thicker. I like thin lotions but I will use this when feeling like I need something a bit more…..decadent. Now, I also got a bonus item:
Julep Nail Polish remover pads. I cannot comment on them as of yet because I haven’t tried them. I will however update this post or do another post with this added in, once I try them. I do like the idea of them.
I should be getting my Topbox in today so I’m excited!!! I’ll keep you posted.
